What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of data containing text sent from a website to users鈥 computers or mobile devices, where they are stored locally. They can uniquely identify users鈥 internet browsers (like Google Chrome or Apple Safari) or devices to help enhance user experience and provide additional functionality. They can be used for storing preferences, protecting data, tracking geolocation and targeted advertising.

Why Do We Use Cookies?

What Kind of Cookies Are Used?

  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram): Used to provide users with targeted ads on Facebook based on their engagement with the University鈥檚 website or to perform campaign reporting for users who visit the website from advertising campaigns run on Facebook or Instagram. Also used to allow users to easily share content (from the University magazine) through the Facebook website or mobile application. Users can adjust their ad preferences on Facebook.
  • LinkedIn: Used to perform campaign reporting and insights for users who visit the website from advertising campaigns run on LinkedIn, and to allow users to easily share content (from the University magazine) through the LinkedIn website. Users can manage their LinkedIn Ads settings.
  • X (formerly Twitter): Used to provide users with targeted ads on Twitter based on their engagement with our website and to allow users to easily share content (from the University magazine) through the X (formerly Twitter) website. Users can adjust your privacy controls for personalized ads on X.
  • YouTube: Used to remember preference for YouTube videos, such as resolution, audio settings and more. Users can adjust your ad preferences for YouTube on Google鈥檚 My Ad Center.

Third-Party Marketing Vendors

黑料杜区鈥檚 University partners with third-party marketing vendors to track user behavior to deliver customized content and advertising and to improve user experience. Certain information may be collected by cookies or other tracking technologies when you access or use these third-party services (such as emails or advertisements), including information about users鈥 browsing activity or non-personal information.

How Long Will Cookies Remain?

Cookies stay on users鈥 device(s) for differing amounts of time, depending on whether it is a persistent or session cookie.

  • Persistent Cookies: These cookies are used to remember users鈥 preferences on the website, to analyze user behavior, to establish patterns of usage and preferences and to improve functionality of the website.
